Word for Word Bible Comic

The Gospel of Mark

Available from The Good Book Company

ISBN: 9780995603547 180 pages, full colour, including all the text of Mark’s Gospel

It isn’t everyday that we might read a comic, let alone a Bible Comic! And there might well be good reason for this—often, a publication like this will include some of the Bible text, but usually this will be paraphrased and sections omitted. Not so with the Word for Word Bible Comic.

This book includes every word of Mark’s Gospel. That’s an enormous plus in itself. Read this ‘comic’ and you will have heard all of Mark’s account of the life of Jesus with pictures that illustrate very well what is going on

Secondly, this book is very well illustrated—so some violence is included (after all Jesus was crucified!). So there is a 12+ rating on this book but there is nothing explicit within it.

Thirdly, the work that’s been put into making this comic historically accurate has been painstaking. This means that there is some original language in the comic (but you don’t need to be able to read this) and it includes some fascinating insights—for instance there is a person taking notes on a tablet (not an iPad) while Jesus is talking. Something that may well have happened since the writers of the Gospels recount things faithfully. (Matthew may have known shorthand as a part of his job as a tax collector.)

One slight negative, is that the Bible version is the World English

Version—but I don’t think that this will be a barrier to anyone understanding the text.

The producer of this comic has also created books on Joshua, Judges, Ruth and Esther—all of which are available from the Good Book Company. I recommend this book to you. (Matthew’s Gospel is due out soon, including all the text from the NIV.)
