Phil

PhilI was brought up in a home where my parents were Christians and introduced me to God as a child. My understanding of who Jesus was and what he did, developed through reading the Bible using Bible notes with my parents and going to Sunday school.

However, the first time I realised that I might need God personally was when I saw my brother asking Jesus into his life. The next week I did the same. Praying with my Mother and the Church Army worker, I asked Jesus to be in my life. Not much changed though and looking back I guess that I didn’t really understand what I was doing I just wanted to be like my brother. As I got older my understanding of my need for Jesus increased as I came to understand my sin and need for forgiveness if I was to be put right with God. At age 14 I was confirmed which in a Church is a public declaration of faith. There was no sudden change in my life but gradually over the years I am being changed as I am made aware of different aspects of my life that aren’t in line with Gods plan.

The biggest adjustment and the one that remains a challenge are to give all my plans to God. I know that everything I have is from God and I must constantly remind myself of this, as I too easily forget to pray about issues that I face, or leave God out of my plans, or simply try to do things in my own strength.

Being a Christian which is a follower of Jesus, is great. Jesus reveals, through the eye witness accounts in the Bible, what God is really like. He was God on earth. It is awesome to know a little about the character of God, who made me, sustains me and to have confidence in who I am, why I am here and where I am going when I die. By looking at Jesus I also have the best guidance about aspects of my daily life, my relationships, my ambitions, my fears or worries and the knowledge that God understands what I am going through because he lived a life on earth too.
